Along the vertical and diagonal edges, pick up 2 stitches, skip 1 stitch.Along the vertical and diagonal edges, pick up 2 stitches, skip 1 stitch.
Along the bound-off edge, pick up every stitch.

After picking up all stitches, place the single stitch that was reserved on a marker (from the Right Front Panel) onto the needle as the last stitch.

I-Cord Bind Off: Cut the working yarn. Attach a new strand of yarn to the needle, leaving a 30cm (12 in) tail. Cast on 3 stitches onto the same needle using the knitted cast-on method. Begin the I-Cord Bind Off:

  • 1. Knit 2.
    2. Knit 2 together through the back loop (K2tog TBL) to join to the neckline.
    3. Slip the 3 stitches from the right needle back to the left needle.
    4. Repeat Steps 1–3 until the end.

Finishing: When all neckline stitches have been incorporated, bind off the last 3 stitches of the I-Cord. Cut the yarn, leaving a 30cm (12 in) tail.

Side Slope and Back I-Cord Edging (Halter Tie Connection)

Setup: Pick up stitches along the side slope and the bound-off edge of the back (do not pick up stitches from the finished I-Cord neckline).

Along the vertical and diagonal edges, pick up 3 stitches, skip 1 stitch.
Along the bound-off edge, pick up every stitch.

First Halter Tie (I-Cord Cord): Cut the working yarn. Using a separate needle and yarn, Cast on 3 stitches. Work the I-Cord tie for approximately 40 cm (15.75 in):

  • 1. Knit 3.
    2. Slip the 3 stitches back to the left needle.
    3. Repeat Steps 1–2 until the I-Cord measures the desired length.

When the desired length is reached, knit 3, slip these stitches onto the needle holding the Right Front stitches, and then proceed with the I-Cord Bind Off.

  • 1. Knit 2.
    2. Knit 2 together through the back loop (K2tog TBL) to join to the neckline.
    3. Slip the 3 stitches from the right needle back to the left needle.
    4. Repeat Steps 1–3 until the end.

Second Halter Tie (I-Cord Cord): After the I-Cord Bind Off is complete, work the I-Cord tie on the remaining 3 stitches until the second tie also measures 40 cm (15.75 in). Bind off the last 3 stitches and cut the yarn.

Finishing

Shoulder/Strap Seam: Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tail, carefully seam or shape the connection points of the halter ties (shoulder straps) to eliminate any awkwardness or gaps, creating a smooth and natural transition.

Bottom Edging: Pick up stitches one-for-one along the bottom edge (hem). Finish the edge by either working an I-Cord Bind Off or working a few rounds of ribbing (as indicated by the specific pattern instruction/chart).

Blocking: Hand wash the finished garment. Gently squeeze out excess water, then block the piece by laying it flat to measurements and pinning the edges so the fabric does not curl while drying.
